Take Part

A step-by-step guide on signing up for Healthspan Connect and its first study, PROSPECT-UK, and what to expect once you join.

Let’s get started!

Healthspan Connect aims to understand health problems, how diseases develop, and what helps people stay healthy for longer.

Here is an introduction to how to get involved.

Ready to join?

Healthspan Connect is currently open by invitation only, but we expect to open registration more widely soon.
If you want to express interest in joining Healthspan Connect, please email us at healthspan@kcl.ac.uk, and we will let you know as soon as sign-up is available.
The steps below explain what to expect when signing up.

Read the Participant Information Sheet

10-15 minutes

You can find all the information about Healthspan Connect and how to take part in our Research Programme by reading our  Participant Information Sheet (PIS) – Adults.

You won’t need to do everything described in the information sheet (PIS) above. Each individual study has its own shorter information sheet that will explain exactly what we’ll ask you to do.
Aged 12-15?

If you are unsure about anything in this section, please ask a parent or guardian to read through the information with you, or contact us at healthspan@kcl.ac.uk.

What do I need to do?

First of all, read the Healthspan Connect Participant Information Sheet – 12-15 Year Olds

If you would like to take part, you will need to sign a consent form. See Step 2 for more.

What do my parents/guardian need to do?

First, they need to read the Participant Information Sheet – Parent/Guardian

They need to make sure you understand all the sections in the Participant Information Sheet before you agree to take part. You will need to read Section 3 with your parents or guardian.

As you are under 16 years old, a parent or guardian will also need to sign a consent form to say that you are allowed to join. Please make sure you have their email address so we can send them a form to complete as well.

Complete the consent and sign-up form

5-10 minutes

If you are interested in taking part, you will need to sign the Healthspan Connect consent form. This confirms that you understand what participation involves and records your choices about the optional aspects of participation.

Fill in a questionnaire about yourself

20-30 minutes

You will be asked to answer questions about your diet, health and lifestyle. You can complete this at any time, take breaks if you need to, and skip any question you don’t want to answer.

Join a study

You can then join a study from Healthspan Connect. We are currently running a study called PROSPECT-UK.

More studies are coming with different eligibility criteria, including different age groups. This means that even if you can’t take part in PROSPECT-UK, you may be eligible for a future study.

In the meantime:

  • Keep an eye on your email inbox for any emails from healthspan@kcl.ac.uk, which will alert you to upcoming studies that you may be eligible to sign up for.

  • Stay informed about our ongoing research by navigating through our website and social media.
